Dr. Adams states j that there were indications of interesting! movements at Wellington, but owing to the position of the harbour the effects were less likely here than on the more exposed coast. The whole matter is being gone into systematically. Tidal waves, as previously observed, travelled across the ocean at about 400 miles an j hour, so that the tidal wave from Chile . should have reached Xew Zealand from I . Chile within 12 hours. j
