HALF-YEARLY REVIEW. IMPROVEMENTS IX PRO-PEIT. A detailed statement of the position in regard to municipal works and the expenditure thereon for the six months ended September 30 was submitted to the meewng of the City Council last evening by the Mayor (l!r. J. H. Guason). The activities covered street improvements, drainage, the Xihotupu re-ervoir, and miscellaneous works. Out of the street improvements loan the expenditure was as follows: —Remuera Read paving (completed), £547.>; Alanukau Road paving and widening, £10.343; Gladstone Road, £lf!S4; a:;d Great South Road paving. £40ii. The expenditure charged against the Grey Lynn streets improvement loan totalled £2:1,355, for the kerbing and channeliin? of the whole or part of the length of 29 streets. On drainage in Grey Lynn £304 was spent. In addition to the work done out of loan moneys many improvements. charged to current account, were effected on seven roads in different localities. DRAINAGE AND WATER. Great activity was shown in tihe essential extension of the drainage system. Over 22,000 ft of sewers were laid. The more important works included the lowlevel sewers, which are nearly completed. The schedule of drainage works throughout the area contained details of the expenditure on no fewer than 48 sewers, the total sum being £22.539. The highest separate cost was £5322 on the Manukau Road storm-water drainage. Excellent progress has been, made witb the concrete work at the Xihotupu reservoir. Up to October 14 the total quantity of concrete deposited was 62.065 cubic yards. leaving 903.) cubic yards to be completed. The expenditure for the (half-year was approximately £37,570. There had been some delay on extending the destructor owing to slow delivery of casting. The expenditure so far totals t>4oo. Five wrrken' cottages were completed at Old Mill ! Road.
