\ statement published this week in a Government return gave the quantity of fruit grown in commercial orchards in j New Zealand during the year ended \larch 31 last, remarking inter alia that the output of lemons wae 10,%5 bushels, and of orangos 3439 bushele. This statement is directly challenged (by Mr. E. C. Turner, who declares that his firm alono handled far more than that quantity of loea.lly grown lemons last year. "I think in justice to the citrus growing industry of Xew Zealand it should be pointed out that the figurvs quoted do not accurately describe the position." he said. •'Our company handled over 16,000 cases of Xew Zealand grown lemons between January 1 and September 30 this year, and by thv> end of December we fullyexpeet'to ha\"e handled over 20,000 cases in the twelve monthe. Our turnover of local lemons last year was similar tn quantity. The Auckland province is the main source of supply of lemons for Xew Zealand, and in the province itself very few outside lemons are used at all. So I fj»r as oranges are concerned, if the fijruivs in the Government return apply purely to sweet oranges they may be correct, hut if they include Poor Man [ and other marmalade oranges then 3139 bushels is far below the actual quantity grown. SVom two growers we have received 2400 cases this year, while there are certainly enough Poor Man alone grown in the Auckland province to eupply all the needs of th« Dominion in the way of marmalade oranges. At the present time every factory is well supplied, which means a good deal more than 3000 cases." 'Tyrex" transparent oven ware>> does not crack or chip with heat. Served <lire» town oven to table.
