FIRE AT MANUNUI.
MANURE WORKS DESTROYED. OWNERS' HEAVY LOSS. CBy Telegraph. —Own Correspondent.) TAUMARUXUI, Tuesday. An outbreak of tire occurred at Messrs. Frankland's Ltd. manure works. Manunui, at about four o'clock this morning. The plant had only recently been installed, and was just getting into proper working order. The building was totally destroyed, and the loss is considerable. The machinery that was installed in the building was damaged as well as a number of sacks of manure anil barrels of tallow. The total loss is estimated at between £l!>00 and £1(500. The plant and buildings were insured for approximately £1000. The outbreak had a good hold when discovered, and as the water main in the vicinity was only a half-inch one and the tallow in the building was burning fiercely there was no possibility of saving tile works. The cause of the fire' is a mystery, and the man in charge of the works declares that everything was in usual working order when he left the premises on the previous night.
