Dr. and Mrs. S. A. Gibbs, of Nelson, mre staying at the Grand Hotel. Mr. M. J. Lynch returned from a visit to Sydney by the Moeraki yesterday. The Hon. J. P. Campbell, M.L.C., left for Wellington by the express last evening. Signor C'esaroni arrived at Auckland yesterday, and is staving at the Star Hotel. Mr. and Mrs. T. Ilarle Giles left yesterday for Whangarei. Mr. Giles 'has lately suffered from a serious illness. After two months' holiday in Sydney, Captain .T. A. Wall is, master of the Kona, returned to Auckland yesterday. Major D. Macaulay, of the Salvation Army, returned to Auckland yesterday by the Moeraki, after spending a short holiday in Sydney. j Mr. Aitken Commons, of Tientsin. China, arrived by tlie Sydney boat last' night on a visit to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. Commons, of Mount Eden. Mr. P. Hally (Conciliation Commissioner), who has been in New Plymouth in connection with conciliation business, returned to Auckland this morning. Professors D. M. Sommerville and E. Marsden, of Victoria University, Wellington, left Auckland by the Navua yesterday on a trip to the Islands. The Rev. J. M. Devenish, of Hobart, and formerly of Auckland, was a passenger by the Moeraki from Sydney yesterday. He intends to resume his connection with the Auckland diocese. 1 Major W. B. Craig. D.5.0., formerly of Rotorua, but now of Melbourne, was a passenger by the Sydney steamer yesterday. He is going lc> visit his brother. J.ieut.-Col. G. Craig. D.H.0., of Morrinsville. Mr. Louis Marks, of Brishane, who is a brother of Mr. Marcus Marks, came to Auckland by the Moeraki yesterday. T'ntil 20 years ago Mr. Louis Marks was connected witli the Civil service in the Dominion. Visitors at the Grand Hotel include Mr. X. P. Maschwitz (of Sydney). Mr. R. C. Reid (Melbourne). Mr. *W. E. Knightlly (London), and Messrs. F. Kandall 'and S. Shores (Christchurch). Miss Olive M. Pearce has been appointed sifter in charge of the maternity ward at Masterton Hospital. Miss Pearce received her first training at St. Helens. Christchurch. and obtained her general training in the Auckland Hospital. His Kxcellency the Governor-General is indisposed, and will be confined to <Jovernmen( House for some days. Her Excellency, who has been on a visit to Australia', returned to Wellington by the Tahiti yesterday. Their Excellencies will visit Christchurch at the beginning of November, and will be there during race week.
