Aβ a result of the prevalence of diphtheria among a number of children in the Papatoetoe district, the Papatoetoe School Committee has decided a! a precautionary measure to close tin school until Monday next. The healt officers stated yesterday that the epidemic was not dangerous, and that the Health Department would not nav< recommended the closing of the school until a proper examination of the pupils had been made. An examination would have been carried out to-day but for the closing of the Bchool. At the weekly luncheon of tlm We! lington Rotary Club on Tuesday, it v.fl announced that Kotarian Rez. Oaklex had been transferred to Auckland, am would be leaving Wellington in th< course of a week or so. Appreciatioi wae expressed of his services in the worl of the club, and also as an entertainer.
