: ' W hen some complaints over a y__r old which came before the Hospital Board, and which the medical superintendent's report B_owed to be quite unwarranted, were under discussion, the chairman of the Board (Mr. "W. Wallace) said he travelled a good deal about the country, and he heard nothing (but praise from ---patients as to the splendid treatment they got in the hospital. Only this week he had met an old gentleman down the line who said he would worship one of the sisters at the hospital all his life for tho kindly attention given to him when he was sick. The nert* letter read was one of gratitude from a mother for the treatment her eon had received while in the hospital. It was decided that in future the by-law which stated that complaints had to be made within seven days after discharge from the institution be enforced and be attached to every account which is sent out, so that tho rule may become more generally known. The statement has been made that we aro training too many young medical men at our universities in New Zealand, yet it was stated this week at the Hospital Hoard meoting that the medical superintendent of the Auckland Hospital, Dr. Maguise, had been doing house surgeon's work owing to there being no medical students available for the position. That such was the case came as a surprise to many of the members, because it was generally supposed that quite the reverse was the case. What is the cheapest fruit T Apples.
