Tlie Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated sth Inst., from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London: — •Meat.—Demand for New Zealand mutton is moderate at unchanged prices. Moderate demand for lam_ at somewhat lower prices for some grades. Beef, only small supplies available. N.Z. Mutton (August 5): Lightweight 6d to 6}d, medium sgd to GJd, lieavyweight 4Jd to sjd: ewes, 4d to 4j_d. New Zealand Lamb: Best quality. lightweight Hid, heavyweight 10* d, ordinary lOjjd; second-class quality IOJd. N.Z. Beef: Hinds. 4*d. fores .'ill. Chilled Beef: 'Hinds. 61d. fores 3*d. Butter.—Market quiet, and prices have declined. Small sales of New Zealand early this week up to 200/ per cwt. Official quotations:— Kew Zealand: Sth August. 100/ to 196/ per cwt. <l/B}d to I' 9 per lb); _9__ July. 200/ to 210' per cwt. <1 .M to l.'lOJ per lb); '22nd July. 212/ to 216/ per cwt. (1/10. to 1/11 per lb. Cheese.—Market quiet, but prices well maintained. Official quotations are: New Zealand, coloured 83/, 86/ per cwt (9d to l>id per lb; white, 87/ to 90/ per cwt (Old to 03d per lb. Wool. —Sales closed ..rd' August with firm tone. Demand for fine wools has been keen throughout, especially from Continental section, and merinos closed 5 per cent dearer on average; crossbred hardened towards close with stronger competition, finishing par to 5 per cent dearer. Averaging closing rates:—6o-64's (merino), 1/3 to 1/10; 56's (super lialfbred). 1/2 to 1/7; 50's (hallbred), Od to Hd; 48's (fine crossbred). 8d to Od: 44-4(i's (medium crossbred). 7d to 8d: 36----40's (coarse crossbred), 64d to 7Jd.
