"SAVE THE OLD LAND."
THREATENED WITH RUIN. ARCHBISHOP TUAM'S APPEAL
(Received 12.30 p.m.) LONDON, July 23. Archbishop Tuam, in a 6ermon, appealed to the youths of Ireland to "ground arms," and insist on a constitu-j tional way of ending the present, conflict.! He said: "Already there has been enough Irish blood shed and enough destruction. Women and children are living in terror, work is abandoned, and the grim spectres of famine and disease are standing at our doors. The moral law is violated, consciences are tortured and hearts are torn, although, by the use of common sense and moderation, the country could now be smiling as never before in its freedom. In the name of God, in the name of Ireland, I appeal to the young men to save the old land from destruction. Let them insist on one truce of God, with a view to restoring order in the country."— ("Times. , )'
