All the competitions were advanced a j stage on Saturday under ideal weather ; conditions. . The match between Philomel and V.M.C.A. on the dock ground resulted in < a good win for the sailors by two goaLi < to nil. The contest was a real good j one, all the players showing up, particularly the respective captains, Neesham and Corbett. If anything the game was j ( marred at times by dangerous charging, | the result of over-anxiousness, and Mr. Bowie had plenty to do to suppress thie. Two games were played on Victoria Park, and both ended in a draw. The game between Ponsonby and Brotherhood was witnessed by many spectators. It was fast and spectacular, and ended one goal each. Innes was conspicuous for Ponsonby, and made several good runs in the second half, whilst Meikle was safe on defence. Griffiths was safe at fullback for Brotherhood. The other game between Northcote and Devonport Presbyterians resulted two goals each, and Northcote were fortunate in getting on evjn terms, as the shooting of the forwards was erratic. Kriott and Corrin were fairly good, and Baker, playing for the first time for years, should improve with training. Wallwork was reliable at right fullback. The Devonporters were uniformly pood. Corinthians defeated Everton at the Domain by 6 goals' to 2, after a fair game. The two special games were played. .Philomel B team beat Chelsea by a goal I and North Shore prevailed against Chatham by two goals to nil. North Shore won the Second Division jChampiomehip, defeating Metropolitan by one goal to nil, the winning goal being ecored only in the hist ten minutes. V.M.C.A. V. I V.M.C.A. continued to press, but the I defence were very sure, and the tackling sure. Corbett tried several long shots, and Henderson was kept busy until Renshaw once again, by a nice run. placed the sailors' goal in danger, but McEUigott charged down the shot. Flashes of good' I play on both wings were frequent, but both sides failed to put the finishing touches to their efforts, the home team being especially noticeable in this respect. A freekick against Doree for handling put . V.M.C.A. in n good position to score, but I Hopkins cleared. Play was assuming a I i kick and dash character, although understanding between the V.M.C.A! players gave them what advantage there was. Immediately on the "/e-commencemeut Philomel commenced preying, and a succession of corner kicks saw Henderson make several splendid saxes, eventually clearing to Renshaw, who forced a corner. V.M.C.A. continued to press, but with no success, and eventually the outside left again came into the picture, but Batty • cleared. Play was quickly transferred to the visitors' goal area, but Lewis being hurt suspended action, and a few minutes later Marsh was injured, an-1 Philomel continued to play ten men. Patterson, Dy a nice pass, put Williams in a good position, and he sent in a good dropping shot. Batty punching over. I j Corbett cleared the ensuing shot, and i Lewis, taking the ball on the run, beat' Coleman, and put behind. V.M.C.A now I took a hind, and Entwistle had a shot, but Ilopkinf cleared to McKernon, who centred I nicely, out Henderson cleared. Marsh now returned and signalised his entry by robbing Renshaw, and from the corner which was forced Corbett headed in. Philomel 1, i.M.C.A. 0.
