SALE OF A MOTOR CAR.

MAX CHARGED WITH FRAUD The tale of how a woman was induced to part with £200 was told in the Police Court to-day, when William James Phillips was committed for trial on a charge of having received from Eleanor Susan Lees that sum on condition that he paid it over to one Van Dyck, and that he failed to so account for the money. The case for the police was that a man named Van Dyck had purchased a motor car on terms, and finding himself unaible to keep up the payments, was about to hand the car back to the vendors when lie met the accused, who told him he could get him financed. The accused, it Is alleged, then went to Mrs. Lees, told her of Van Dyck'e predicament, and in--1 duced her to "give him £200 to lend to !Van Dyck on representing that she 1 would be -paid very good interest on the loan. Instead of handing the money to Van Dyck. however, it is alfeged that he converted it to his own use. Mr. Hosg appeared for the accused, who reserved his defence, and was committed for trial.
