PONSONBY CRUISING CLUB. PRESENTATION OF THE LIPTOX CUP. The animal social and distribution of prizes of the Ponsonby Cruisiug Club was held in the Masonic Hall. Belgium Street. on Friday. The hall was gaily decorated n-ith flags, and the club patron (Mr. \V. J. Jaggs) presided, being supported by his j Worship the Mayor (Mr. J. H, Gunson), rurauiodore E. J. Kelly, Mr. A. Thompson, and visitors from all the local yacht clubs. The Lipton Cup, which was greatly admired, occupied a place on the platforfi. In a short review of the past season, Mr. Jaggs mentioned that it had beeu a very busy one. mentioning the races for the Sanders Cup in Dunedin, and the Liptoii Cnp in Auckland. This latter cup was donated to the club mainly through the efforts of the late Mr. A. Hewsou, amd the friends of Mr. Hewson had now subscribed an amount to provide a cup and four gold medals, which would be donated to the 14-foot one-design class for annual competition by boys under 21 years. Mr. Gunson also made feeling reference to the late Mr. Hewson, who was one ol the founders of the club, and Its first treasurer. When presenting the Lipton Cup i to the owner of the Valeria and the repre- | sentative of the Victoria Cruising Club, Mr. (innson said that they all felt proud of the fact that the Ponsonby Club had this line cup coming, as it did from the first yachtsman of the British Empire. Mr. Gunsoa requested Mr. A. N. Hay, Sir Thomas Lipton's local representative, who was present, to convey the club's best thanks. Mr. T. L. Thompson also congratulated the club, aud promised to see that the Victoria Club put up a good defence next season. The prizes totalled £131 in cash, the principal trophies being the Kohn Cup won by Muzzletov; the Ladies" Challenge Shield, won by Coquette; the Ppeecl Race, won by Miss Masport; the Aggregate Prize, won by Rona in the small classes, and Waitere in the big classes; ana the Booby Cup, won by Xlaybelle. Supper was served at 10.30, after which dancing was kept up till one a.m.
