I ANDERSON-PATTERSON MATCH POSTPONED OWING TO RAIN. LYCETT IN THE FINAL,. (By Cable.—Press Association Copyright.) (Received 11 a.m.) LONDON, July 7. The semi-final in the All-England Tennis Championship between G. L. Patterson and J. O. Anderson, which was to have been played to-day, had to be postponed until to-morrow owing to rain. In the other semi-final R. W. Lvcett, the ex-Australian player, beat Gilbert (England), B—6, 9—7, 6—3. This game was a long drawn out (Struggle, unmarked by brilliance on either side. Queen Alexandra was present, and before the gates opened there was a queue a mile long. Gilbert beat Mavrogordato, 6—4, 3—6, 6—3, 3—6, 6—2. He will meet Lycett in the semi-final. Anderson is a etrong favourite for the championship. Most of the critics predict that his quieter method is likely to give him a comfortable victory over Patterson's more spectacular and slashing style. In the men's doubles, Anderson and Lycett defeated Bis=s ker and Hillyard, 6—l, 6—2, 6—3.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
Miss Lenglen beat Mrs. Peacock, 6—4, 6—l, at seven. Despite two and a half hours' delay owing to heavy rain the crowd ehouted for the Patterson and Anderson match, but it was officially announced that it was too late for euch an important contest. Mrs. Mallory beat Mrs. Beamish, 6—2, 6—2.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
