MANUAL SCHOOLS' DISPLAY.

An exhibit well worthy of inspection by those interested in manual training is _ that made by the manual training schools. The woodwork schools of the city and suburbs have shown a variety of models made by their pupils, which illustrate the graduated sets of exercises through which the pupils are taken in their two years' training. The exercises range from elementary work to articles involving a considerable amount of skill. It is noteworthy that the scheme provides for a combination -of educational and utilitarian ideas. The exhibit by the metal work centre. Vermont Street, is interesting, as this is the only primary school metalwork centre in Xew Zealand. The school was opened late in 1921, and the exhibit shows conclusively that the course, of instruction taken by the pupils is one of great value. The Hamilton Technical School engineering students have shown a very tine lot of tools and other articles made by them. The needlework and dressmak- ; ng sections contain some excellent specimens of work done by the girls in the Hamilton Technical School, the general finish and colour schemes being particularly good.

Tlie students in the city and suburban dressmaking classes and from the Pukekohe Technical Pligh School make a very fine display of work—this part of the exhibit contains needlework from primary schools, technical high schools, and from adults. A "made-over" costume is a particularly pleasing article.

The cooking centres, particularly Vermont Street, have displayed a comprehensive assortment of cakes, scones, etc., which show that the girls are receiving a sound training.
