A WORD FROM WELLINGTON.

It is a long time since we came across so delightful an act of evasion as the "Dominion" performs over our remarks about Wellington's disinclination to help itself in the matter of certain public utilities. We pointed out that the existence of a Dominion Museum, a new building for which we admitted would have to be provided, relieved Wellington of the necessity of providin" a museum for itself, as Auckland nnd C'hristchurch have done, and we thought that the suggestion that tbe name should be changed to the "We'.lingon Museum"' might induce Wellington citizens to contribute to its upkeep. Then we protested quite politely against the proposal to get the State to add to the Turnbull Library a technological wing, which would contain books that, in Auckland have been provided by local effort. The "Dominion" says nothing about the Turnbull library, misrepresents what we say about the museum, and goes off into a warm comparison between public works expenditure in the Auckland and Wellington provinces. It is all quite amusing. What has expenditure on railways got to do with our point? We sugjosted that Wellington people might do more for their own city, instead of leaning so heavily on the Government, and we repeat our suggestion. Is the "Dominion prepared to publish a list of private benefactions to Wellington, together with a list of Auckland benefactions? We are surely justified in suggesting that Wellington's need in technical books should be supplied by local effort, as is done in Auckland, and not by the taxpayer. The "Evening Post," we arc interested to i.ote, thinks that Wellington should follow Auckland's exti.mplc, and put up money for the local museum. The "Dominion" had butter deal with its contemporary.
