In connection with the inquest into the death of the prisoner Ernest Beehrc at Mt. Eden Gaol last Thursday, reference wa s made by witnesses to the fact that the deceased had asked Mr. Leggett, the deputy-superintendent, "for a pair of boots, but had not got them. In the cross-examination, which was unfortunately omitted, it was established that Mr. Leggett had nothing to do with the issuing of boots, and, in fact, as the report showed, the deceased applied to the chief warder for a new pair of blueher boots, and on being supplied with them had said that they would do.
