KOWHAI SCHOOL.
(To the Kdilor.i Sir.—Tlio householders of Kowhai School district fully reeogniie the merits of thf> proposed now system of education and approve of the main Kowhai School being taken from them for tho purpose. but they strongly object to the infmt school also being taken from them. The resolution whih was passed .-t the meet ing of householders in the Empire Theatre was a very long one. the last paragraph of which was: —"Further that the department allow tie use of Kowhai building on the south for tho use of infants of the Kowhai School district, ■which shall not extend beyond the south side of New North Road or west of; Dominion Road, and that, the additional land extending to Onslow Road shall at once be purchased for the extension of extra junior high school biiildin?* will ll shall be proceeded with forthwith." These aro the words that have been raisconstructcd into an approval of the householders of n proposal ti deprive th« infants of Kowhai district of a school that was erected purposely for them. The proposal to send the o infants to a school a mile or more distant causes them to cross a 1.-vel railway crossinn-. travel alone a main road with] a double line of tram rails and a con-j timious stream of vehicular traffic, and, also deprive them of Hie opportunity of returning home for lunch, instead of allowing them to attend a echool specially designed and erected for the..i rtehr at their doors, should not he entortnined by tiiose to whose r.uthnritv thp velfirc of the infants of the rlistri it has ret-n entrusted. —T am, etc..
