OTAHUHU QUEEN CARNIVAL.
. On the 14th, 15th, and 16th of this month the Otahuhu School carnival will be brought to a close by the crowning -of the successful queen. Miss Xoreen McUeehan. queen of the chrysanthemums, representing Standard I. The initial movement was made in February, when a strong working committee was set up, assisted by the children, parents, and general public, with, the result that the committee can fairly claim that the sum raised. £1170, i- a record in connection with school queen carnivals. The object o-f the movenunt is to carry out general improvements to th? grounds. (I) By planting hedges and ornamental trees, and laying out a drive to the school: (2) by laying out a football ground and cricket pitches: (3) by laying down basketball grounds and tennis courts; (4) !>v the erection of memorial gates: (5) by the construction of a >and tray. If funds permit it is intended that provision be -made for swimming baths and a wailing pool. The voting resulted as follows: — Queen of Roses, £243 7/: Queen of Chrvsanthermrms, £261 4/; Queen o* Dahlias, £140: Queen of Daisies. £125 7/8: Queen of Carnations, £104 01: Queen of Asters. £70 7 '4: Queen of Lilies. £04 0/8: total, £ 1022 15/9.
