WEEK-END FIRES.
CAR AND CYCLE DAMAGED. About 9.30 on Saturday evening the Remuera and Parnell Fire Brigades responded to a call to a motor-garage in Kemuera Road, owned by Mr. G. .T. White. The garage, which was built of brick, contained at the time a eevenseatcr motor-car and a motor-cycle, and it is thought that the fire wae caused by the fusing of an electric wire on the tar. Both vehicles were badly damaged before the flames could be extinguished. The motor-cycle was insured for £100 in the London and Lancashire Company. The garage and car were not insured.
The fusing of an electric cable in Quay Street at 7.15 p.m. on Saturday evening was the cause of an alarm. The brigade's services, however, were not required as the current was cut oil from the power station.
A scrub fire at Birkenhead on Saturday lit up the sky brightly and burned for an hour. Xo damage wa6 done.
