TRAMWAYS' DISPUTE.
REDUCTION IN WAGES. DECISION OF CHAIRMAN.
Tliis afternoon Professor Sejrar delivered his decision in the tramways dispute. Wapes are to be reduced by Ud per hour. Double time is to be paid on Sundays, as heretofore. The preference clause remains us in the previous agreement. Promotion, as proposed by the council, is to Ik> subject to the of appeal. The annual holidays conditions stand with tiie addition proposed by the council. NO condui tors' check representative is to be appointed. Clauses dealing with signing off time are to be the eamo as in the union's proposals with'a slight modification. The agreement comes Into force on Monday. CHEAPER TRAM FARES. RKDITTIOX TO BE PASSED OX.
The following statement wae made by the Mayor. Mr. J. H. Ouneon, immediately, after the committee had given its derision:—"l take this earliest opportunity of advising the public on behalf of the council that the full amount represented hy the reduction in wagee will tip immediately passed in a suitable form by reduced travelling charges on the irams to the public. The council meets this afternoon to consider the whole nvtttcr, but the public can re?t assured they will receive the full benefits of the reduction, details of which will be announced as early as possible."
