EDUCATIONAL CONFERENCES.

SECONDARY SCHOOLS , ASSOCIATION. NOMINATION OF OFFICERS. (By Telegraph. — Tress Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The annual meeting of the Secondary Schools Principals' Association is being held to-day. The following were nominated for office in the Secondary Schools Association, which meets to-morrow: — President, Mr. T. R. Cresswell (Wellington College) ; members of the executive, Miss C. M. Oruickshank (Wangantti Girls' High School), Mr. W. A. Armour (Napier Boys' High School I, and Mr. VV, VV. Thomas (Timaru Boys' High School). SCHOOL CURRICULA. At to-day's meeting of the New Zealand Educational Institute a report by a special committee on school curricula was presented by Mr. VV. H. Newton (Auckland). He explained that the principal point made was the need for better co-ordination in the system to give pupils a practically continuous schooling from the primary elements as far as pupils could go. The speaker warned teachers of the dangers of creating watertight compartments of authorities dealing with each branch. If another compartment were created the last state of the schools would be worse than the first. Mr. Aschrnan (Christchurch) suggested that the time was inopportune to introduce a junior high school. It would entail expense which might mean withdrawing money much needed for primary schools. The debate is proceedine. SPARE. SCHOOLS. Spare schools in any scheme ot national e:onomy was the burden of an appeal which teachers have made to school committees all over the Dominion, and which they repeated at the annual conference of the New sZealand Educational Institute to-day in the form of a motion. The president of the Institute (Mr. J. E. Purehas. of Christcliiircti), iaid the motion was in no way a reflection on the Government, but rather an appeal to the public to >-cc that schools were left alone in this movement for retrenchment. The motion was seconded by .Mr. D. W. Low (Palmcrston North), and carried.
