OBITUARY.
MR. S. RITCHIE. The death of Mr. Samuel Ritchie occurred last Wednesday at Auckland. Deceased, who was a native of Killinchy, County Down, Ireland, arrived in Auckland in June, 1863, by the ship Aloa. Proceeding to Wniuku on arrival, he took part in the Maori War. After his discharge from the forces he went mining on the West Coast of the South Island, but soon joined in the rush to Thames gold fields, being employed in the Golden Crown when the big bonanza was being worked in that mine. Mr. Ritchie has resided in Auckland for the past fifty years, and was highly esteemed by a large circle of friends. He leaves a widow and daughter, and several grandchildren to mourn his loss.
