At the Borough Council meeting last j night it was announced that by practie-1 ing economy the usual services could be ] rendered on a reduced general rate. It wae therefore decided to strike a rate of threepence, which ig a reduction of three farthings, and to cut out the special gae rate, ac the gafl business now showed a profit. Machinery for re-forming and asphalting all the etreete in' the town is expected to arrive shortly. Preparations are now under way for carrying out the work of installing the hydro-electric power plant to eerve the borough and adjoining Main Trunk towns.
