BLIND ALLEY OCCUPATIONS.
NEED FOR BETTER TRAINING.
MELBOURNE, April 25,
Tho Board of Trade lias published a report on an apprenticeship Echeme -which aims at bridging the gulf between the age of 14 and manhood, while at the same time steering clear of the "dead end" £ occupations. The report recommends the abolition of arbitrary rules specifying the number of apprentices to be allowed, compulsory continuance of education until the age of IS, a uniform wage bearing in mind the cost of sustenance of the apprentice, meanwhile reducing many of the extravagant minimum rates pre- c scribed in industrial agreements. Provision is recommended for apprentices of any age. It is also suggested that tribunals be established whose purpose shall be to determine the aptitude of j youths leaving school.— (A. and N\Z.)
