YACHTING.
END OF RACING SEASON. RACKS SAILED IN HARD BRKEZK. 22-FOOTER RONA SINK. The oUieial closing of the racing season 1021-22 took place on Saturday, when all clubs combined and held cruising races for the larger classes to Islington Bay, and harbour races for the smaller classes. The races started off -King's wnarf. between the tower and launch Winsome, moored north. Ail keel yachts started at 2.30 p.m.. their course being round the Raugitoto reef mark. thence round the Brown's Island buoy to Islington Bay, finishing between the launch Daisy and dinghy moored east.
The weather conditions were very unfavourable, a strong breeze blowing from the south-west, with heavy squalls of wind aud rain, which caused several mishaps. Lord .lellleoe's 14-footer Iron Duke capsized while being launched from tbe skids, and There was not time u< get her in racing trim before the start.
In 'he race for 22-footers to Islington Bay tbe Ilonn capsized in a heavy squall off Bean Rack Lighthouse, and sank. Her crew were picked up by tbe launch Countess and brought back to town. Celox and Hilda collided before the start. The former lost her bowsprit, aud Hilda sustained damage to her (upsides.
Lord and Lady Jellicoe were iutcrested spectators of the early part of the races from tbe end of tbe King's wbnrf. his Excellency being keenly disappointed when he heard of bis boat capsizing.
