SHOALS OF PROTESTS.
OLD -CAN OFFERS SACRIFICE. MELBOURNE, April 23. Shoals of letters have been received by the Attorney-General protesting against the execution of Colin Ross. One is alleged to be from the wife of the real murderer, who alleges that she knows that her husband committed the crime, and will bring him up to scratch in a few days. One man, 75 years of age, visited the gaol and offered himself aa a sacrifice for Ross, quoting the Bible, and saying it would lie a beautiful death to die "for another. He expressed great disappointment when bis offer was not entertained.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
