POST AND TELEGRAPH TROUBLE.
A SUGGESTED COMPROMISE. WITHDRAWAL FROM ALLIANCE. <By Telesraph.—Press Association.) WANGANUI, this day. In a statement to the "Herald," Mr. W. Veitch, M.P., suggests the following as a basis of settlement to be proposed to the Government by a conference of the Post and Telegraph associations to be called to-discuss, the situation: — First, that the association will aban- ! dori the proposed affiliation with the Alliance of Labour. Second, that the Government will set up a tribunal, if possible a permanent one, to investigate salaries, working conditions, and causes of unrest in the service, with special reference to the effect of retrenchment.. Third, that the Government will postpone the second and third cuts under the Public Service Adjustments Act until the tribunal has made its report and until the executive has been consulted.
Fourth, that the order of reference for the tribunal b* 1 drafted by the Government in conference with the executive of the association.
