LAWN TENNIS.

1 The management committee of the • N.Z.L.T.A. entertained the members of the New Zealand ladies' tennis team at a dinner at the Hotel Cecil on the eve of their departure from Wellington to Sydney, those present including Mrs. J. C. Peacock, Misses Macfarlane, Curtis (2), Payton, Wellwood and Burt, Messrs. M. Denniston, J. C. Peacock, Gore, Goldie, Kean, Berry, Lord, and Henderson. Speeches were made by Messrs. Denniston, Peacock, Gore and Goldie, and the I representative ladies were presented. Miss Macfarlane (captain) and Mr. A. G. Henderson (manager) responded on behalf of the team. On Saturday, Bth, at the Hastings Tennis Club, one of tbe team, Miss Zita Wellwood', was accorded a hearty send-off by the members of her club, who, together wrhh their good wishes for the beat of luck in Australia, presented her with a purse of sovereigns. At Petone, on Tuesday night, the residents in the same manner made a presentation to Miss N. Curtis, the New Zealand champion, wishing her bon voyage and a most successful tour.

The team left for Sydney on the 13th by the Manuka, accompanied by Mr. A. G. Henderson, as manager. Several tennis enthusiasts are making the trip, including Mr. and Mre. Green (Dannevirke), Misses Bain (Christchurch), G. Curtis (Petone) and Brewster (New Plymouth).
