A WET GOOD FRIDAY.

TJOWNPOTTR OF RAIN. OVER AN INCH LAST NIGHT. CHANGE FOR THE BETTER.

There was too much north in the •westerly wind of the last few days to please the weather-wise, and those who study the signs did not venture far from shelter yesterday. An unpromisine morning fulfilled its threat in the afternoon, and after sunset the water rame down solidly, accompanied by some thunder and lightning. At intervals durinc the night ram fell, but towards sunrise there, was a change in the wind to the less treacherous quarter of the southwest, and when people woke this morning there was a distinct coolness in the atmosphere, the. temperature bein~ several degrees lower than for several mornings. The rain was so heavy that in the last twenty-four hours over an inch of rain fell. The barometer, which had been skirting the 30 mark, just a shade below it, for the past couple of days, began an upward move at 6 aj__ and is now above 30, with a bit to spare. The indications now are that though we may expect some showers, the weather will improve, and that the Easter which opened so disastrously will finish fine and clear, and distinctly gTif.n-in i_ temperature.
