• PONSONBY CRUISING CLUB. VALERIA WINS THE I.IPTOX CCP. The Ponsonby Cruising Club held a race on Saturday for tbe Lipton Cup. also races for the Jellicoe one-design, 14-foot square bilge, and 14-foot handicap classse and a launch race for the Kohn Cup. The Llpton Cup Is a trophy of unique design valued at £250, and was pre*-cnted to the dub by Sir Thomas Lipton. It has been allotted as a perpetual challenge trophy for the 22-foot class. Each boat was nominated by one of the local clubs, and the following were the entries:—Marie (North Shore Yacht Club), Venus (Ponsonby Cruising Club), Forest Gold I Manukau Yacht Club), Valeria (Victoria Cruising Club). Mowai (Point Chevalier 'SaillDg Club), Lucille (Takapuna Boating Club). Marie was in charge of V. Lidgard, Valeria Geo. Couldrey. Venus W. Wllletts. Mowai A. Tobiu, Lucille G. Murphy, ami Forest Gold E. Parker. Tbe race started at 2.4<) p.m. Tbe direction of the wind gave the boats a long leg on port tack to tue Sandspit mark, a run to tbe Resolution buoy, and a broad lead to tbe Watchman. Ou the second round the wind backed into the east, which gave the boats a beat down harbour to the Sandspit and a run home in a dying breeze, and It looked «s :f tbe race would have to be retailed at one t'uie, but it freshened a little, and enabled Valeria to finish in time. From a'good start Marie was first away, closely followed by Forest Gold, Valeria and Venis, with Mowai 50s and Lucille 2m 13s late. • Soon after the start Valeria overhauled Marie; and holding a better wind, slowly drew away from her. with Venus third. Off King's wharf Marie aud Venus were forced to go about to clear a steamer, Valeria continuing straight down the harbour and increasing ber lead all the time. Tbe first round was completed as follows: Valeria 3h DSm 455, Marie 4h 2in 475, Venus 4h 2m 48s. Mowia 4h 8m 15s. Forest Gold 4h 12m 555, Lucelle 4h 15m 235. On the second round Valeria worked ihe weather shore, and increased her lead from Marie, the finish being timed: Valeria 6b 14m 445, Marie 6h 18m, Venus 6h 24m 335, Forest Gold 6h 27m 545. Mowai lib 32m ss. Valeria thus wins the trophy. THE KOHN CUP. The entries and handicaps for this race were Esuie • scr. Surf 2i.ni. Kathrj-u 11. 7m, Arab BJm, Daisy 12Jm, linanota 14m, Ella 14m, Countess 14m, Muzzletox 25m, Kalhryn ■11.. Surf, and Imanota did not start. Some confusion was caused by this race being 15 minutes late in starting. Ella Muzzletov, Arab and Countess starting with the Llpton Cup boats at 2.40 p.m. Esme and Fairy at 2.55 p.m., but this matter was adjusted at the finish, which makes the finishing times as follows:—Esme 3h IGni 33s Daisy 3h 31m ss. Arab 3h 32m 10s. Countess 3h 38m 595. Muzzletov 3h 41m 375. Corrected times place Esme first, Muzzletov second, and Ella third, JELLICOE CLASS. A condition of this race was that skippers and crew must be under 21 years. From a good start Iron Duke was Urst away, followed by All Black, Rona, N'yria. Resolute. Ola. Joan. Rangi, Viper, and Betty. All set leading jibs for the first stretch to the mark off tbe Watchman, and N'yria quickly took the lead, with Joan second, aud Rona close up. This was the order at the mark, but on the beat (o the Shoal Bay mark Rona passed Joan, and picked up on N'yria. Tbe same order was kept on the second run, all three leaders having a great go. On tbe beat to tbe Shoal Bay mark for the second time Rona took the lead, and the finish was timed: Rona 4b 52m 425. Joan 4h 52m 50s, N'yria 4ti 54m 13s. Resolute 4b 56m Ss, Ola 4b 58m 2s. Betty 5h 2m os. Iron Duke 5h 2m 4s. Viper 5h 6m 17s, Raugi 5h 9m 565. All Black did not finish. Roua Is first. Joan second, and Nyria third. The winner was well handled by J. Gifford, Joan by R. Goodwin, and Nyria by S. Dryland. Rona now has the splendid record of 10 first prizes for 17 starts this season. 14 FOOT SQUARE BILGE. This class was sent away at 2.40 p.m.. Sea Spook. Cupid, and Dixie getting over the line together, with the others close up. Tbe finish was Sea Gnome 5b 0m 375. Sea Spook 5b 0m S3s, Sea Delll 5b 2m 355. Cupid 5h 2m 40s, Sea Nymph 5h 6m 12s, Sea Elf 5h 7m 21s, Sea Bubble 5h Sm 7s, Sea Imp 5b Bni 30s. Corrected times place Sea Elf first, Sea Imp second, and Sea Spook third. 14 FOOT HANDICAP. This class started at 3 p.m.. Silver Link being first away, with Valet. Rover. Arawa, Omakl, Edna, WtSzbang. Cariad. idler, Tul, Ola 11. and Redwing following. After a good race between Idler and Valet an the way the finish was times Valet 5h 2m 7s, Idler 5h 2m 18b, Wblxbang 5h 5m 48s. Redwing 5b 6m 218, Cariad 5h 6m 365, Arawa 5h 6m 555, Rover 5h 7m 425, Silver Link 5h 10m 38s, Omakl 5h 11m 18s. Tul 5h 14m lis. Ola 11. 5h ISm 18s. Corrected times place Whlzbang first, Cariad second, and Arawa third. RE-SAIL T. CLASS. The re-sall of this class resulted in a win for Kover with Wblzliang second, and Redwing third.
