COMPANY MISTRUSTS LAW. (Received 10.:iO a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. Following a conference in Melbourne in March between the representatives of the steel workers and the Broken Hill Proprietary Steel Works at Newcastle, it was agreed that an application should be made by the company for the variation of the award governing the steel workers to enable the industry to carryon. The compauy now states that no application could be successful under tbe existing law to relieve the company of the present high wages, and the works will close as soon as the existing orders have been fulfilled.
