— m MRS. JAMES McANDREYV. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) PAEROA, Friday. Pneroa has lost yet another of its pioneers in the person of Mrs. McAndrew, relict of the late Mr. James McAndrew, one-time proprietor of the I'aeroa Joinery Works, now Messrs. Lamb and Co. The deceased lady, who AA - a_ just on seventy-live years of age. died at her residence, Puke Road, Paeroa, a.t 11.330 o'clock'on Sunday night, the 10th inst. Seven years ago Mrs. McAndreAV suffered an attack of heart trouble, and had been ailing ever since. During the past four months her condition became very poor, although she Avas able to gel about the house up till Sunday.

Mrs. McAndreAV was a native of fast (Ireland). She came to XeAV Zealand on the Ida Zeigler about i.> 4 years ago, and Avas married some four years later, residing at Thames, and coming to Paeroa Home 28 years ago. In this district the deceased lady Avas \-ery prominent in all social activities. She had been a staunch member of the Paeroa Presbyterian Church ever since its inauguration, and year after year, right up to her death almost, worked for its advancement. She Avas also, v.ith the late Mrs. Kdwin EdAvards. one of the foremost workers and exhibitors in connection with the old Ohinemuri A. and I. Society, particularly with the Horticultural division. The money hoav in hand by the Paeroa Hospital Trustees for a hospital at Paeroa Avas largely collected by the two deceased ladies mentioned, they having canvassed both Paeroa and Te Arobn for funds. In many other social activities the late Mrs. McAndreAV Avas a leading spirit, and the good that she did certainly liAes after her. Mr. James McAndreAV predeceased bis Avife by some twenty years. He was a prominent figure in the district, having been Mayor of Thames in 18811-00, and being re-elected unopposed he filled the Mayoral chair until ISO 3. He was also a member of the Ohinemuri County Council. the Thames Harbour Board, and other local bodies. He came to Paeroa in 181)3. OAving the joinery Avorks alluded to above.

The bereaved are ttvo sons and tAvo daughters. Mr. Xorman McAndrc-w i Auckland). Mr. Oeorge McAndreAV. Mrs. W. A. Kennv, arid Mrs. D. Craig, all of Paeroa. The funeral took place at 2.30 on Tuesday, the 21st inst., interment being at the Paeroa Cemetery.
