TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP.
TILDEN NOT TO COMPETE. NEW YORK, March 24. The United States Lawn Tennis Association has announced that Mr. W. T. Tilden will not defend his AA-orld title at Wimbledon next summer. The reason assigned is the heavy expense invoß-ed in sending the leading American player abroad and the effect of such a trip upon the player. The association adds that, Tilden is willing to go, but. in vieAV of the sharp Davis Cup contest anticipated, and the fact that Tilden returned in bad condition after last year's trip to England. it is considered best that he should remain in the United States.— fA. and N.Z.
