MONEY FOR WHANGAREI.
LARGE LOANS SECURED. (My Telegraph. —Uwji Correspondent.) YVHAXG'AREf, this day. When the Mayor of Whangarei (Mr. D. A. .McLean) and Councillor A. X. Brainslby visited Wellington recently they got a loan of'£sooo as the outcome of an application to the Prime Minister for an advance on the Avorkers' dwelling scheme, and .more was promised in connection with this work. While returning they interviewed the Hon. J. G. Coates in Auckland concerning a loan of £0880, covering £3800 for Avaterworks extension, £1300 for drainage extension, £1000 for financing pnA'ate sewerage connections.. £2001) for rounding dangerous street corners, £500 for the purchase of a scenic reserve, £500 for construction of certain private streets, £230 for Kensington surface drainage, and £550 for Kensington Park improvement. It was desired that a loan should be got from the Public Trustee. As a result the folloAving telegram was received by the Mayor this morning from the Minister of Public Works: — "Pleased to inform you that seven applications from the Whangarei Borough Council, totalling £9150, Avere granted Iby the Investment Board yesterday at interest of 0 per cent., plus 1 per sent sinking fund, subject to sufficiency of legality of security in each ease. These are the applications a'hout Avhich you saw mc in Auckland recently. Applications for £500 for scenic reserves and £230 for Kensington drainage supplementary loan have not yet 'been considered 'by the Investment Hoard, pending receipt of further information. I hope that this will 'be satisfactory to you."
