Amendments made by the Legislative Council in the Land Laws Amendment Bill and Washing Up Bill were agreed to. TAXATION OF LOAN INTEREST. Replying to fiir John Luke, the Prime Minister said it was a fact that holders in New Zealand of Government Wai Loan debentures were liable to pay income tax on interest thereon, while holders resident outside were exempt. He recognised this position ivas an anomaly, but he could not at the moment see \vhat could be done to remedy it. As soon as the session ended he would go fully into the matter and see whether a solution could be reached. A DISCREDITED REPORT. The Prime Minister assured Mr. Holland that no arrangement was made by the Governiront with anyone in Australia for a supply of New Zealand coal in ihe event of industrial trouble in New Pouth Wales, and he had never heard j any suggestion of such a thing. PROPOSED RAILWAY CUT. The Minister of Railways, replying to Mr. Hanan. who referred to the anxiety i felt in Southland regarding the pro--1 jeoted cut in the railway services, said i the Dcpanment wa-s endeavouring to so arrange the cut as to cause the least possible inconvenience.
