PHOGRASBCG FOR 19-2. , A brief review of the projected undertakings of various suburban local bodies during the year just commenced, reveals a wave of municipaJ activity and progress on the northern s_b_(_ui line, embracing Avondale, New Lynn, CHen Eden, and Henderson. While Avondale and New _ynn each have an enteTpriang programme for the year, Glen Eden has lately made a distinct step forward by the election of a town board, and Henderson is Kkely to follow suit in the new future, an application for a town fcosrrd having already teen heard by a Commission. The concreting oi the main thoroughfare from Anckland to the Manukau •Harbour at Onehunga is the most expensive undertaking in the case of the Newmarket Borough "Council, the Onetree Hill Road Board, and the Onehunga Borough Council. The Town Boar— has improvement schemes on hand far greater than anything previously undertaken in the history of the district. Among the most important works which the Newmarket Boaough Conncwill undertake during the coming year will be the paving and concreting of Broadway, being that body's portion of the concrete road to extend from Auckland to Manukau, at an estimated east of £6fioo, and tbe laying down of Carlton Road in bitumen which, it is estimated, will cost about £3,000. Both of these works will be done out of loan money. It is also intended to lay down some of the other aide streets in tar seal. Among a number of other matters which will receive the attention of t—l Council early in the year will he ftc straightening of a sharp corner in Crowhurst Road, near Gillies Avenue, which has always been a menace to vehknlar traffic. The Mount Roskill Road Board turns completed its portion of the A nek land - Manukau concrete road at an approximate cost of £9,000.
