Bashful tenants conscious of the short-1 comings of their household goods, have! been known to make an arrangement' with the expressman for a trip after, sunset so that the night might hide beneath her polite mantle the evidences, of the ravages of time and human hands , on the family soft, chairs, and other: articles thta are too big to pack away . from the criticising gaze of the neigh- , hours. But the stevedores, the Auck- j land Harbour Board's new tenants at j "No. 11," have no such false modesty. ! The first of them began moving in this morning, and wharf loungers might have been forgiven if they had thought that some enterprising auctioneer had bought i out the salvage of a fire at a second- • hand marine dealer's and was looking for temporary storage where he could sort out his "find." Old buckets, rusty drums, coils of rope, bags full of ancient sacks, heaps and heaps of dunnage mats, odds and ends of iron, timber and tackle were tumbled out on the floor, and it struck one that if an attempt had been made to collect stuff that would induce the rats of the neighbourhood to also become tenants of the famous "Xo. 11" shed the selection could not have been more appropriate. This sort of "clobber," as it is known in salt water circles, is ipart of the accepted stock-in-trade of stevedores, and no one would suggest that it should not have a resting-place, hut the incongruity of the locality chosen temporarily (a word which in the A.H.B. dictionary means from two and a-half to three years) strikes you most forcibly when you turn from the cart unloading its "old junk," and there, staring you right in the face, find the portals of the city's main entrance!
