i 9 ■ Sir Philip Proctor, of London, has returned from the South, and is at the Grand Hotel. Vice-Admiral J. P. Rolleston, who recently retired from a command in the British Navy, has arrived in Wellington. Dr. P. Mackin, of Wellington, who has been on an extended visit abroad, returned to Wellington on Tuesday by the Ruahine. Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Allsop left this morning an o three weeks' motor tour of Wairakei, Napier and Mount Egmont. Dr. J. A. Thomson and Mr. B. C. Aston have been appointed members of the Board of Governors of the New Zealand Institute. Mr. Frederick T. M. Kissel has been appointed a member of the board of examiners under the Inspection of Machinery Act. The Mayor of Wellington (Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P.), and Mi's. Wright, are leaving the South at the week-end to spend the Christmas and New' Year holidays in this city.
