WORKERS' DWELLINGS.
(To the Editor.) Sir,—Selected applicants, under the Act, arc required to pay a deposit of £1. It would be interesting to know the total amount under this heading held by the Government. As these sums have been held for such a long period by the inactivity of the Department, perhaps the Minister of Finance might see his way clear to grant interest to long j iuffering applicants. What a nice start off ior tho Ngw Year. The Housing Department seems dead, but sunie are being granted to local euthorities for the purpose of building. The method adopted by those authorities is to demand a fairly largo deposit, land the houses get into the hands oi parties hardly intended to benefit under the Act, whilst workers with small, if I any. savings, aro still oni In the cold. !A ' statement of return showing the ! term* paid for the ten dwellings erected I at, Grey Lynn by the Auckland City I Council* would perhaps bear out my ', statement.—l am, etc., I HOMELESS. i
