Following upon the kidnapping of two police at Londonderry the police and Republicans fought a* pitched battle in Sperrin Valley, Tyrone, where a Republican camp was raided. Six Republicans were killed and twenty wounded. ' The police seized ten road-mininf machines and quantities of ammunitions.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.) SHOOTING IN BELFAST. SNIPERS' NESTS SEARCHED. BAYONET CHARGE ON GUNMEN. f , LONDON, December 21. " Sniping and looting are of daily occurrence in parts of Belfast. Last night the military surrounded a large area infested with gunmen and carried out a house-to-house search. They captured quantities of arms and ammunition, and effected 30 arrests. They delivered a bayonet charge against gunmen in Cupar Street and Falls Road. On the application of the defence, the Chief Justice in Belfast adjourned till January 11 the trial of 15 prisoners charged with the murder of two constables at Londonderry gaol. The temporary warder, Lennard, who is among the accused, alone recognised the Court, the others stating that they would only recognise a Court controlled by the Ifigh FTee State.—(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
