WEST EXD "AT HOME." PATROX - S IDAY. " Despite the showery weather the Wes' Knd boathouse held its opening "At Homo" on -Saturday, when trial fours for trophies donated by the patron. Mr. Th<e. Peacock, were rowed. The clubhouse was decorated with flags and bunting, and music was rendered by the Italian .Band. The Ladies' Committee. under Mrs. Fairs. dispensed afternoon tea, whilst Mr. Jas. J-owry officiated as judge, and Mr. John Clark, the club president, a? starter. '.Sixteen crews competed, and keen racing wss witnessed. ißesults. —The contestants in the first hen;: were crews stroked toy Ryan, Skinner and Vourtney. In a spirited finish Skinner sained a half length's decteioa from iKyau. In the seconrt heat the stcoie were Culpan. Nord<*n. Fraser. Fraser beat Culpan after a good race -by two feet. Tlie third boat saw Me.Roberts, Trevartheu and 'Bright .lace the starter. Brighfs crew won from Ale-Roberts by one and a-qnartcr lengths. Hunter won from Dawea by h length in the ;fourth heat, and in the flft'a a great race resulted in Graham gaining i decision .by one tfoot from Blair. The fas: heat was contested by ißutledge, Pentecost and Taylor, Rutledge beating Taylor by a length. In the semi-finals Fraser. Skinner and P.right lined up for t;ie tlrst semi-Snal. The crews inov-ed ofT well together. Bright was the first tv show out, and held a half length's advantage wp to th-e wharf.
