USTRALIAN SHIPPING.

THE STRIKI-: SUGGESTION. Rumour? of a strike of Australian seamen and lircmcn, recently referred to in our columns, have been made a little more definite by private advices received by yesterday's mail. Correspondents state that, there ia now less fecrecy abjut the matter, but that it is freely discussed, and correspondence received by mail this week from Brisbane predicts the end of this year for the strike, whereas previous advice suggested tlie end of the current month. Advice has also been received from Sydney of the possibility of a strike, traders being urged to take every opportunity to secure shipping space to expedite deliveries before the strike eventuates. Information as to cause is not too definite, but it is possibfj- an endeavour on the shipowners' part to reduce wages, and also it is possible that objections to clauses in the new Navigation Act are responsible in part for the suggested action. As was stated in our previous Teport, it is not anticipated tTiat seamen under New Zealand articles will participate in this movement.
