CARGO PILFERING.

A WORLD-WIDE EVIL. Apropos of cargo stealing, which has been prevalent in the Dominion as elsewhere of recent months, and which lias been severely condemned and punished by judges and magistrates, the following from "Pacific Powts" is worth quoting: — "Wholesale cargo thieving continues to be reported from commercial centres throughout the world, and while the various governments and private organisations have been engaged f ol - months in investigating the pilferage question, no headway has been made iv checking the evil. '•Shippers, carriers, and port authorities must all co-operate in the campaign to crush the pilferer. The shipper must provide better casing for his poods and carefully avoid placing any marks on the cases to indicate the nature of the contents. The carrier and port authorities must work out some plan to afford better supervision of goods in transit and hi port."
