TEACHER'S APPOINTMENT.

COMMITTEE DISSATISFIED. THREAT TO CLOSE SCHOOL.*"" (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) OHRISrrCHUECH, this day. The filling of an. appointan£nt on the staff of Wuarenui School, near Eiiccarton, lias led to friction between the ■School Committee and the Education Board, and the committee (has threatened to close bhe school after November 30 unless a choice of teachers is submitted to it. The action of the committee is based on the contention that t!i« Board is bound to give the committe*- a choice. A vacancy occurred at the school some time ago, a.nd was advertised in the ordinary way. The Board, after consulting the senior inspector, selected the candidate highest on the graded list, and cent the name on to the committee. The coihmittee asked that not less than two names should, be submitted for selection. The Board re- [ plied that the provisions of the Act ha<l been strictly adhered to, and that the j Hoard was debarred from sending more ithan one name in this case, as it could 'not be said tihat there were "two or more candidates .possessing as nearly as may 'be. equal claims to the appointment." The Board has informed the Committee that if it doses the swlwol the committee mufit aoeep-t the responsibility for the position. The chairman of the ■Education IJoard met two members of the committee this morning, when tue position was fully ventilated, and he hopes, in consequence of the explanation given, the committee will refrain from any dnastk- action.
