LANDRU'S CLEVERNESS.

PROSECUTION WEAKENING. PARIS, November 24. Landru is in a jubilant mood. Tha prosecution is weakening, and is shifting its ground in consequence of Jlademoiselle Segret's evidence. The President of the Court asked Landru how he disposed of his alleged victims, adding: "The prosecution is loyal enoujrh to tell you that it is completely baffled, and must now fall back on theories. We know you had firearms and empty bottles of poison were found. You are also adept at strangulation, because you hanged three degs."

Landru retorted angrily: "1 protest strongly against this farce. You are unable to find even a portion of one body, yet you still accuse mc of these crimes." Several witnesses who had been neighbours of Landru at GauVbois were called to bolster up the case for the prosecution. They were very confused and credulous. One said that he saw a woman's head floating in a pond near Landru'g villa. He told no one, and was unable to remember the date. —(A. and N.Z. Cable.)
