LAND AGENTS' BILL

FINANCE OF APPLICANTS. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, Thursday. The Land Agents' Bill has l>ceii amended by the Statutes Revision Committee, and it is now provided that a solicitor shall not be deemed to be a land agent merely by reason of the fact that in connection with his business as BoHcitor he has acted as agent in a eale or purchase. The claiiee extending licenses in force till December 31, 1921, is struck out. Another new clause gives the magistrate power to consider, among the eubjecte of objection to applicants, the financial position of partners, or in the case of application by a company its financial position or the character of the directors 'or general manager. A magistrate hae power to call for information on these points when applications are made by firms or companies for a renewal of the license.

The clause ..which authorises tha magistrate to impose a line of £50 on any unlicensed person" who holds himself out as a land agent has been widened to include any person who accepts remuneration for his services as agent in respect of the sale or purchase of any land or interest therein.
