CHRISTMAS EXCURSIONS

>TEED FOR LIVEXIXQ UP. (By Telegraph.-Parliamentary Reporter.} WELLINGTON', Thursday. Liven up the trains and make them really cheap, was the suggestion by Dr. Thacker to the Minister of Railways to-day, when he called attention to an excursion from Christchurch to Little River which took two hours to cover 32 miles, and occupied 25 minutes longer on the return journey. The so-called excursion fares were 1/6 cheaper than ordinary for first-class, and only' 6d cheaper for second-class. The member wished to know if Christmas excursion facilities would be given this year. The Hon. D. H. Guthrie replied that excursions would be run as usual.
