LATE ENEMY SUBJECTS.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —A returned soldier protests against late enemy subjects receiving better treatment. Miiy I ask him, Isn't it time the hatchet was buried? lie professes to be a Christian. Has forgiveness been ( a;brogated from tthe Christian creed? It was the Mosaic Law which said, "An eye for an eye," but Christ said, "Love yo-ur enemies."
Returned Digger believes in charity beginning at home. Paul says, "It seeks not her own." Permit the authoress of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" to >peak: "Christianity is not a thing you r-an bend and turn, make ascend 'and descend to fit into every crooked phase of selfish society." I understand a Christian to be a follower of Christ. If the spirit of the words of Returned Digger is the spirit of the Master, then 1 must confess that I have sadly misunderstood the teachings of Him who proved He really loved the -world, including Germans. May I add that forgiveness implies, "I cease to hold the past against you; I view things as though they weren't committed.—l am, etc., UETURN'ED SOLDIER.
