CUTTING THE BILLS.
. I HUNDRED MILLIONS SAVED. BY ECONOMY COMMITTEE. (By Cable.— Press Association.—'Copvrlstkt.): (Received 9.30 a.in.) LONDON, September 0. Sir Erie Geddes' Business Men's Economy Committee found ways of saving a hundred millions in tho next Estimates. The committee's main recommendation is the abolition of Labour exchange?. They admit that some local machinery will be necessary while the Government continues to pay unemployment insurance, but believe that it can be done simply and cheaply. The committee made startling recommendations for economising in Mesopotamia and Palestine, but this will involve ' important re-consideration of Cabinet policy. Other recommendations are drastic economies in expenditure on army and naval dockyards. ]t is hoped to economise further by reducing the cost and size of the Civil Service, though diffifulties are expneted to be encountered.
