The City Treasurer pointed out that in view of the Cltj- Engineer's department beins unable to undertake the collection at rofuso from the Point Chevalier district, and as the obligation rested -with the council to perform the service before a rate could be struck, it would be nocpssar.y to instruct him not to collect a sanitation rate over the district in question. The Auckland Gas Company was given fourteen days in which to remove an open wooden sack shed on its premises in 'Beaumont Street, the erection of which had been begun without application having been made for a permit. It was reported that the building was In the iirlck area. In connection with the painting of the outside doors of the Town Hall, the engineer reported that the necessary work would include the painting of window sashes, iron gate, railings, etc., and also that the iron roof on the front of the ! building required painting, and also the lean-to, at an additional cost of £94, the other work costing £116. It was agreed, on the recommendation of the Works Committee, that the work should be done. I Ten business firms wrote drawing attention to the condition of Stanley Street, ' particularly at the northern end. It was decided to inform them that the street was scheduled for tarring and sanding during the current year. The question of repairs to Grand View Road, Epsom, Hereford Street, and Parnham Street, Parnell, was Teferred to the ■Works Committee.
